What we have noticed…

Something essential has been lost in today’s climate of midwifery care. More and more we see that the trusting spirit of the previous generation of midwives has been replaced by a focus on external testing, a reliance on ultrasounds and other technologies, a language mirroring the hospitals we hope to avoid, and a general anxiety about the innate ability of a woman’s body to successfully and safely birth her baby.  The gap between the approach of the old and the new only grows with each day. 

We believe there must be a bridge between those who came before and those coming after. 

Elder midwives sought out knowledge of women’s bodies from anywhere they could access it. Diligently, they honed their skills to keep women safely at home.  They reclaimed and contributed to a unique body of knowledge of pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding, now referred to as the midwifery model of care. 

We are the inheritors of this model of care and committed to preserving it. 

The pioneering spirits of these midwives have long kept us inspired and constant throughout many long nights at the feet of women. Now, we are bringing the soul and spirit of their work, step by step to the next generation of midwives. We are bridging the gap.
